Caring for your Persian Rug
Persian rugs are beautifully crafted and made to last a generation if not more.
Looking after your Persian rug is not difficult and should not be neglected.
Vacuum your Rug
You should vacuum regularly to stop fine dust particles settling in the foundation (warp and weft).of your rug.
Start with the back of the rug using a beater brush (vacuum with rotating bristles) as this will help loosen particles embedded in the foundation
Then vacuum the front side of the rug. Avoid using a beater brush on the tassels and rugs with a thick pile
Rotating
It is important that you rotate your Persian rug every 6 months to ensure the rug wears evenly.
Airing your rug
People have beating Persian rugs for centuries. We suggest you take your rug outside to hang on the close line for airing and give it a good old fashioned beating.
Don’t beat it like a piñata; you only need to beat the rug hard enough to loosen the particles in the foundation.
You can use a cricket bat, baseball bat or a rug beater.
Spills & Stains
If you accidently spill something on your rug, quickly soak a lint free cloth or sponge in lukewarm water mixed with mild detergent or soap water and gently rub the stain.
Immediately stop if you notice the dye is running. Seek professional advice.
Professional Cleaning
You should professionally clean your Persian Rug to prolong the life of your rug.
Avoid cleaning your Persian rug yourself as certain detergents can remove the dye and damage your rug.
We recommend that more expensive and seasoned Persian rugs should be cleaned by a professional cleaner every 2 years to preserve your rug. You will surprised by how vibrant your rug will look after being professionally cleaned.
